Core Functions of a Healthy Society

Posted on Jun 6th, 2007 by Peter : Synnervator Peter
We have co-emerged these as core functions of a society that practices sustainability, resilience and emergence, as part of the project we are involved in to facilitate the current transition in the Dutch society. They act as a check list to see to what extent the diverse policy areas and implementation projects support these core functions. We wrote them originally in Dutch (below), so this is a translation. I'd be interested in your thoughts:

Survival (beige) : to provide basic needs for people who can not look after themselves
Belonging (purple) : to take care that people feel they belong
Power (red) : to trigger self-expression and action
Purpose-Structure (blue) : to name and protect our collective Purpose and the agreements that are necessary to fulfil it
Entrepreneurship (orange) : to continually stimulate high performance, successful entrepreneurship and innovation
Sensitivity (green) : to offer the possibility for personal growth and participation for everyone in the society, while caring for the natural habitat that we live in
Integral (yellow) : to stimulate functional connection and vitality across the whole society aligned behind the higher Purpose
Holistic (turquoise) : to facilitate the emergence of holistic solutions that serve life as a whole

The Dutch ones particularly I think are very powerful. This will come in very useful in supporting societal renewal and transformation from the public sector. Good work!

thank you for putting these core functions up here. I wonder, though, what is the emerging part of it - like they are stated here it seems they'r a pretty good description of what you do from and on certain levels. What I would like to find out are, what would be the 'enticing' memes that motivate people to move up to the next half or whole level?
Is there anything there that you co-emerged in the dutch CEH?

Hi Peter,
First that caught my eye was that the red in Dutch was not translated. Power is still there as power. It made me think and first thing that came to mind was that it could be a stage where personal development is important in a more intuitive way. The moment one discovers one’s personal talents and tools for expression by play and in competition with others.Could zelfontplooiing be a good word or is that something that fits more in the orange?
Love Trix

Mushin - the enticing vMeme is the next one from wherever you are. The Spiral Dynamics book has a section for each transition.
Trix - interesting omission that! I've put in the Dutch original for Red.

…….and it is also a inspiration for a answer in rime? ;-)
Seems obvious now that Expressie is much more a expression of the Ducth healthy red perspective. In the policy for youth it is even a big theme, talentontwikkeling.
